Treatment Description

Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation is a special technique in which the hair is actually transplanted from the permanent areas like the back of the scalp to the areas affected by hair loss. The follicular units are removed very carefully along with the donor tissue without damaging it and then the hair occurs naturally.

Is it safe?
Yes, FUT is quite safe but caution should be taken while selecting the surgeon because expertise and experience both matters a lot in this treatment.

How is FUT done?
The follicular units or the bundle in which the human hair grows is removed from the back of the scalp without damaging it so that it is replanted in the affected area. The technique involved is the stereo-microscopic dissection of the tissues and should be done by a specialist doctor.

How long does the treatment take?
The total time taken in the FUT surgery depends upon the amount of damage or baldness is there in the patient.

Will I be asleep?
You will be asleep during the process because of the anesthesia. Since the process involves incision so it is preferably good to have the patient in complete rest, free of any tension.

How long will I stay in hospital?
You might have to stay for a day or two because after the FUT surgery/treatment the recipient surface is cleaned and kept moist by chilled saline spray.

Will I have stitches?
Stitches are made in the donor area and there is only one line of stitches in the area from where the follicular units are taken.

Where are the scars and how bad are they?
There are virtually no scars in the stereo-microscopic dissection process but in single strip harvesting technique of FUT there is one fine scar in the donor area.

What type of dressing will I have?
There is no dressing done because the process involves small fine needle like incisions and only chilled saline spray is done after the surgery. There might be a dressing for the stitches in the donor area.

How long are they left on?
The dressing of the donor area will be left for a few days so that the stitches heal up fully.

Will I be swollen or bruised?
No, usually there is no postoperative bleeding or infections. Complications are rarely threatening.

Will I feel any discomfort?
You might feel a little discomfort because of the small incisions, however the chilled saline spray releases the discomfort level a lot.

Can I bath and shower after the treatment?
It depends upon the damage and the process involved in the surgery/treatment. You will have to follow the instructions given to you by the doctor.

What can’t I do after the treatment and for how long?
Your doctor will give you a list of instructions after and before FUT surgery and it is advisable that you follow each and every advice so that your hair transplantation is done successfully.

How long before I can go back to work?
It will take few days to get into normal routine and depending upon the amount of treatment performed on you.

Should I stop taking any medication?
The doctor will prescribe you some medicines and ointment or so for better recovery and good growth.

How long does it take to recover?
Follicular unit grafts are inserted in tiny needle sized sites in the affected area that heal up in very few days.

When is the final result seen?
The final result is seen 30-40 days after the treatment performed. However the change might start appearing after 7-10 days.
